Day 4: Weaverville NC - BRP#1
Day 4: Our first day traveling on the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of the most popular and scenic highways in the U.S. 450+ miles of gently winding 2 lane roadway surrounded by tall trees on both side, and views of the valleys on either side. Many motorcycles, singles and groups. However, for most of the ride, those trees blocked the views! I found it irritating that many, if not most of the “Scenic Overviews” were overgrown with vegetation and trees. A perfect example is Priest Overlook (sign #4870, panorama #4857), where nothing is visible but the vegetation. I asked about it and was told “budget restraints” as the answer. Those trees look like they’ve taken 20-30 years to grow, so I believe that it’s a policy decision to discourage the use of our natural resources. If you really want it all to “go back to nature”, just close the parks and roads and be done with it. So much for my soapbox, on to the journey….
