Days 47 to 56 Going from "The Out West"
After visiting in Arizona, we felt that we had just about "been there, done that" on our trip "Out West". Our goal now was to visit with Gail's brother and his family in Albuquerque for a few days, then continue East, then south and return to Florida in one piece. Currently, I'm writing from Lake Chicot ("chico") in South East Arkansas, and the only piece left behind was a little bit of my heart in Albuquerque with Gail's nephew's daughter Rachel, age 3. On the morning we were to leave Albuquerque, the gas flame in refridgerator in the camper would not stay lit. I figured it was the thermocouple / safety switch that had failed. (It had given us some hints previously that all was not well.) $130 bucks later a professional confirmed my diagnosis, but the part was at least 7 days away... so we left town anyway, using the trucks 12v DC supply to run the fridge, and aimed for State Parks (National Parks were still closed) along the way so we would have AC to plug into to preserve our stock of food overnight. On the second morning out, on a hunch, I started the gas flame again, and it stayed lit. Four days later, all is well, except I'll have to convince a repairman in Tampa to change out the parts that seem to be working just fine now... We'll be in Florida in two days, and we'll take the scenic route back along the coast of the Panhandle. There are some wonderful State Parks along there, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them, and returning to Tampa.Read More
